what you will need!

Supplies/Ingredients:

• 2-5 round cakes (depending on your size of cake)
• one round cake stand (same size as your bottom tiered cake)
• cream cheese frosting (or your choice of flavor depending on taste)
• piping bag & tip
• offset angled spatula
• wooden dowel rods
• cake knife
• fresh flowers for decor
• flower sheers
• cake lifters

step 1: pick your florals   DEPENDING ON THE COLOR PALETTE OF THE PARTY OR THEME YOU ARE GOING FOR, PICKING FLORALS HELPS YOU DECIDE HOW TO ARRANGE EVERYTHING TOGETHER. i love to set out a color scheme first, this helps me decide exactly what florals i will need, i save pictures on my phone of a variety of floral arrangements to help & guide me. also, knowing what flowers are in season, is of great help. you don't want to pick a whole floral arrangement based on peonies, and only to find out it's not peonies season! (yes, it's happened to me!)   here are some of my tips for the perfect floral arrangement: 1. statement florals (the main focal flowers you want to pop-this will help you get a base so you can work around them, usually mine is my favourite garden rose) 2. IN-BETWEENS (florals to fill the in-between spaces, such as carnations, peonies, camellias). try opting for larger flowers so you don't to buy as many while keeping it soft and minimal. 3. fillers- ( small florals to add texture and combination to the floral arrangement, i love to use berries or other fun options like so,to add a unique touch)

step 2: make the base cake making the base is key! it needs to be a solid base for you to attach all those florals on.   my steps for the right cake for your naked floral cake: 1. PICK HOW MANY LAYERS THIS CAKE WILL BE. This is ideal, as it can make or break the cake. Decide how many florals you want & how you will want to arrange them, IT is vital to knowing how many layers your cake will be. 2. color of the cake! this is also VERY IMPORTANT IN making sure the colors of the cake base goes hand in hand with your florals. example: a white cake for a lighter outdoor theme with soft pastel colored florals or maybe a chocolate cake for an evening event with darker rich hued florals, the event and florals have to be cohesive with the base of the cake for that perfecT POLISHED CAKE! 3. flavor of the icing- i tend to go with the flavor of the icing depending on the color. such as buttercream has a more tinge of yellow while the cream cheese is more effective for a whiter touch to make your florals pop. YOU CAN ALSO DO ICING BASED ON FLAVOR OF PREFERENCE, BUT REMEMBER TO MAKE THE COLORS OF THE ICING GO HAND IN HAND WITH THE FLORALS YOU PICK FOR A CLEAN COHESIVE LOOK.

step 3: balancing the cake     florals are delicate if singular, however when creating a floral arrangement ON A CAKE, THAT'S A WHOLE OTHER STORY, especially if adding a towering one side effect of florals like THE MAIN PICTURE Above, they will get heavy! TO KEEP YOUR CAKE FROM NOT TILTING OVER (I LEARNT FROM THE HARD WAY) USING WOODEN DOWEL RODS (OR METAL RODS, IF YOU WANt to GET ALL PROFESSIONAL!) WILL ALLOW THE CAKE TO STAY CENTERED AND ALLOW SUPPORT. smooth out the frosting, with your spatula so the rods and holes get hidden AWAY. yOU CAN FIND WOODEN DOWEL RODS ON AMAZON OR LOCAL CRAFT STORES, LIKE JO ANN, OR MICHEAL'S. maKE SURE TO GET THEM CUT TO THE SIZE OF YOUR CAKE OR HAVE A HANDY TOOL LIKE THE DOWEL CABLE CUTTER TO CUT THEM YOURSELF. thIS IS ALSO HELPFUL SINCE YOU CAN CUT THEM BASED ON YOUR CAKE SIZE AND HEIGHT. step 4: floral arrangements      my favourite part! this is what i call the "icing on the cake". arranging florals can be done as quick as 10 minutes depending on your design or can easily take up to an hour trying to perfect your masterpiece, but it's your decision. i love to have a similar picture of a cake i had in mind to go off the style i want and work from there, although, it's never going to be same, (AND YOU DON'T WANT IT TO BE EITHER RIGHT, YOU WANT YOUR OWN UNIQUE TOuch and design to truly call it your own) however, using that aS A guideline is a good start.   i tend to start with the step 1 rule! {statement florals first, then the in-betweens and finally the fillers}. i also love to add little touches like adding gold meringues or macarons for an extra touch of sweetness to finish the look.
